Al Gore Speaks Out

Former vice-president Al Gore has delivered a series of direct, honest critiques of the failed policies of the Bush administration and their profound impacts on our democracy and our world.

The Bush Administration is Undermining Democracy 6/24/04
In an address to the American Constitution Society, former vice president Al Gore accused the Bush administration of undermining democracy through deception, the erosion of checks and balances and a misinterpretation and exaggeration of presidential powers. "This administration has not been content just to reduce the Congress to subservience. It has also engaged in unprecedented secrecy, denying the American people access to crucial information with which they might hold government officials accountable for their actions, and a systematic effort to manipulate and intimidate the media into presenting a more favorable image of the administration to the American people."

Global Warming and the Environment 1/15/04
In this, his third major speech sponsored by MoveOn, Mr. Gore issued an indictment of the Bush administration's inaction on global warming, linking the issue to national security. He showed that global warming is not a future threat -- it is happening now. And yet, the President is choosing to help his coal- and oil-company supporters rather than advance modern technologies that can affordably solve this critical problem.

Iraq speech to MoveOn members 8/7/03

At New York University on August 7, former Vice President Al Gore gave a major policy address to over 500 MoveOn members. Here's an excerpt:

"Americans have always believed that we the people have a right to know the truth and that the truth will set us free. The very idea of self-government depends upon honest and open debate as the preferred method for pursuing the truth -- and a shared respect for the Rule of Reason as the best way to establish the truth."

"The Bush Administration routinely shows disrespect for that whole basic process, and I think it's partly because they feel as if they already know the truth and aren't very curious to learn about any facts that might contradict it. They and the members of groups that belong to their ideological coalition are true believers in each other's agendas."
